Microscopes require light to function. So finding a light source compatible with your scope and your needs is essential. There’s no shortage of options when it comes to microscope light bulbs: they come in various shapes and sizes, to properly illuminate the stage, samples and specimens of your particular microscope. There are traditional projection bulbs and festoon bulbs. Fluorescent ring bulbs, halogen and tungsten bulbs. Even mercury vapor bulbs! Some microscope bulbs aren’t bulbs at all, using LED clusters to illuminate samples instead. LED-lit scopes don’t need replacement bulbs, as LEDs last almost forever before burning out. Other types of microscope bulbs will have different life cycles, and need replacing depending on how much you’re using them.
